Mathias Husmann

Mathias Husmann was born in Hamburg in 1948. He studied conducting, piano and composition at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. His professional career began as an assistant from Horst Stein at the Hamburg State Opera (Staatsoper Hamburg) and leaded to music director positions at the Theater Ulm, at the Theater Magdeburg and at the Theaters in Stralsund and Greifswald. Husmann has worked with numerous orchestras (including Berlin Symphony Orchestra, Munich Broadcast Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra of the North German Radio NDR, NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo) and soloists (including Christian Zacharias, Saschko Gawriloff, Christiane Edinger, David Geringas, Harald Stamm). He taught at the Music Universities in Hamburg, Berlin and Stuttgart. In 2009 he was awarded the Jean-Sibelius-Birthplace Medal.


Since 2010, he passes on his experiences to the singers and instrumentalists at ICoM.
