Prof. Hans-Udo Heinzmann

Flute / Woodwind Ensembles


Born 1947 in Heidelberg, he received his first musical ‘impulses’ from the famous Regensburger Domspatzen. He studied flute at the Munich University of Music and played in orchestras in Augsburg, Munich, Frankfurt, and Berlin, before coming to the NDR (North German radio) Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg. In addition to his orchestral work, Heinzmann performs as a soloist and chamber musician, and is especially engaged with contemporary music. He appears at important festivals, such as Flanders, Schleswig-Holstein, Salzburg, Bayreuth, and Edinburgh, and has made concert tours throughout Europe, as well as South America and Japan.


Since 1983, he is a Professor and directs a flute-class at the Hochschue für Musik und Theater, Hamburg. He was an instructor at the International Summer Academy of the Studienjahr für Japaner in 1997 and 2001 in Hamburg and the Japan Master Classes in 1998. In his free time, he is occupied with the further technical development of the flute and has become a specialist for construction of the instrument.
